The Beegie Adair Trio with Monica Ramey at Birdland

The Beegie Adair Trio with special guest Monica Ramey
Wednesday, January 8, 8:30 p.m. & 11:00 p.m.
Music Charge: $30

“Beegie has the confidence and wisdom to dispense with anything that would interfere with the telling of her story, so what she communicates feels very direct, very honest.  She's beautifully supported by Roger and Chris, and as a group they transition effortlessly between dreamlike moods, playful swing, and deep-rooted grooves.  Our spirits want to dance, and music like this reminds us of that.” – Anthony Wilson
“There was a brief period in the late 1950s and very early ’60s when Capitol sagely paired George Shearing with a succession of the label’s top vocalists, including Peggy Lee, Dakota Staton, Nancy Wilson and Nat King Cole. The results were uniformly wonderful, setting a standard for sophistication that has, until now, never quite been equaled. But in Monica Ramey and Beegie Adair, Shearing and company have finally met their match.” – Christopher Loudon, JazzTimes Magazine

The legendary Beegie Adair Trio will be playing the historic Birdland Jazz Club on January 8, 2014.  Joining the trio will be special guest, vocalist Monica Ramey. Their performances, as a trio and with Ms. Ramey, have consistently energized sold out audiences. Adair's albums have dominated the jazz charts and album sales while Ramey's sophomore album, produced by Adair and bassist Roger Spencer, are creating a reinvigorated excitement among the jazz world. Ms. Adair and Ms. Ramey are thrilled to return to Birdland and to bring their musical mates, Roger Spencer and Chris Brown, to NYC for a special “One Night Only” performance.

Jazz great Helen Merrill salutes Adair’s “inventive jazz sense, her wonderful sense of time and improvised melody.” The Los Angeles Times calls her music “Elegant.” Entertainment News writes, “Beegie Adair is one of the finest piano players in the world.”

Jazz fans around the world agree with critics about The Beegie Adair Trio’s sophisticated and listenable jazz performances, and have made their recordings among the biggest sellers in the jazz world. Under the guidance of her esteemed mentors and friend, Ramey is quickly catching the attention of jazz fans, critics and musicians.

Michael Feinstein calls the pairing of Beegie and Monica “a master class on how to interpret timeless songs with style, taste and a swinging contemporary sensibility.” Guitarist Anthony Wilson declares Ramey “sings with grace and elegance” and “uses these abilities to deliver the world of the song first to your ears (sometimes it’s like she’s singing directly to you), then to a much deeper place where you can really feel it.” The Nashville Scene calls her “a first-rate interpreter of the jazz canon.” Pianist Chris Walters finds Ramey’s music “a miracle – at times controlled and concise, at others, fervent and daring, all the while abundant with wisdom” all while drummer Marcus Finnie states "Monica is truly an "Artist." Her interpretation and phrasing of these works are moving and beautiful."

Doors open for a special meet and greet with the artists before each set. For reservations and more information, please visit www.ticketfly.com or www.birdlandjazz.com.

She has also appeared on scores of other projects throughout her extensive career. The Beegie Adair Trio recently released their first live concert album, “The Real Thing.”

Monica Ramey featuring the Beegie Adair Trio at Nine48jazz

Nine48jazz was created as a memorial to the late pioneer restaurateur, Charles H. Dungey, Jr. Each Nine48jazz cevent showcases some of Nashville’s hippest jazz artists in a uniquely intimate setting. Seating is up close and personal and the vibe leaves no doubt that jazz has roots in Nashville.
