The Beegie Adair Trio with special guest Monica Ramey
Performing Arts Series
The Beegie Adair Trio with special guest Monica Ramey
Thursday, September 12
7:30 p.m.
Goodwin Performing Arts Center
Once in a while, a musician comes along with impeccable technique, deep understanding of the jazz repertoire, an innate tendency to swing and the rare ability to communicate the heart and soul of a tune to listeners. That musician is Beegie Adair. Join Beegie Adair (piano), Roger Spencer (bass) and Chris Brown (drums) with special guest Monica Ramey (vocals) for the Performing Arts Series fall offering.
Hailed as “one of the finest piano players in the world” by Entertainment News and “an accomplished artist with a delicate touch” by JazzTimes magazine, Beegie has 32 recordings to her name, counting all six projects in her box set. She has also appeared on scores of other projects throughout her extensive career. The Beegie Adair Trio recently released their first live concert album, “The Real Thing.”
“Hearing the instruments in the room with you is quite different from having a recording come into your house that was done in a studio,” Beegie explains. “There’s a special atmosphere created at live performances, and that’s the real thing.”
Reservations suggested; tickets available August 12.
Co-Sponsors for this event: The Washington Jazz Society & The Steinway Piano Gallery
Admission: Adults, $15; Children under 12, $5; Waynesburg University Student, free with student ID

Beegie Adair, who Michael Feinstein
called "a marvelously understated player whose interpretations of
standards are just brilliant," jazz great Helen Merrill salutes her
"inventive jazz sense, her wonderful sense of time and improvised
melody," and The Los Angeles Times calls her music "Elegant,"
will be returning to Birdland with vocalist Monica Ramey. In 2011,
their performances, as a duo and with the renowned Beegie Adair Trio, have
consistently energized sold out audiences. Adair's albums have dominated
the jazz charts and album sales in Japan in 2010 and 2011 while Ramey's debut
album "Make Someone Happy" continues to receive international
accolade and airplay on jazz radio, including Music Choice and DMX.
Beegie Adair is one of the finest piano players in
the world. Entertainment News
Now that the trend of aging rockers cutting albums
of show tunes and standards seems thankfully to have run its course, we're back
to vocalists with a real feel for and understanding of the jazz tradition doing
them justice. Nashville's Monica Ramey is a shining example. Her excellent
release "Make Someone Happy" offers resourceful, soaring and engaging
interpretations of material from The Great American Songbook.
Ron Wynn - Nashville Scene
Her theatrical roots combine with her obvious deep
affection for the classic popular song to give us a freshly unique take on the
material she's chosen for her debut. It's sassy, swinging and totally
enjoyable.
