NJW's Snap on 2 & 4 Series Presents: Monica Ramey with the Beegie Adair Trio
Snap on 2&4: Monica Ramey w/ the Beegie Adair Trio
Friday, September 9
8:00pm
The Jazz Cave
Nashville Jazz Workshop, 1319 Adams Street
For the September 9 Snap on 2&4 presentation, NJW is pleased to welcome to the Jazz Cave Monica Ramey with the Beegie Adair Trio.
About Monica Ramey:
“Monica Ramey gives me the feeling that I can make it through any obstacle in life. Her music encompasses love, joy, sadness, hope, and humor. These are qualities that most artists strive for in their music, but few achieve. Monica presents the human experience, in such a beautiful way. Ladies and Gentleman, welcome to Monica Ramey. “
-Rod McGaha, Jazz Trumpeter
Monica is a native of Francesville, one of Indiana’s smallest town. By the age of 11, she had become well known in Indiana after starring in several local and professional Broadway musical productions. As a teenager, she studied at the Los Angeles County High School of the Arts, and in 1995, Monica was selected to become one of only 12 singers nationally to be a member of the GRAMMY National All American High School Jazz Band and Choir. Monica later studied Music Performance at Indiana State University and was a member of the ISU Jazz Singers. She also interned for the NARAS Foundation in Los Angeles, where the preservation of jazz music became a focal point of her responsibilities.
In 2000, she moved to Nashville to pursue her singing career, where she discovered the Nashville Jazz Workshop, giving her the opportunity to study under some of Nashville's finest musicians. Her debut album Make Someone Happy is receiving international airplay on jazz radio, Pandora, Music Choice and DMX to name a few.
About Beegie Adair:
Jazz great Helen Merrill salutes her “inventive jazz sense, her wonderful sense of time and improvised melody.” Michael Feinstein calls her “a marvelously understated player whose interpretations of standards are just brilliant," Christopher Louden of Jazz Times magazine says Adair is “an accomplished artist with a delicate touch.” The Los Angeles Times calls her music “Elegant.” Entertainment News writes, “Beegie Adair is one of the finest piano players in the world.”
Jazz fans around the world agree with critics about Adair’s sophisticated and listenable jazz performances, and have made her recordings among the biggest sellers in the jazz world.
A mainstay of the Nashvile jazz scene, Adair has recorded over 30 CDs (29 of which are recorded with her trio). She hosted her own radio show, Improvised Thoughts, in the late 80's and has been featured twice on Marion McPartland's Piano Jazz. In 2002, Beegie joined one of the most exclusive rosters in the world when she became a Steinway Artist. An honor only bestowed upon 1,600 pianists in the world including Lang Lang, Diana Krall, Harry Connick, Jr., Michael Legrand, Billy Joel and the "immortals" like Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and Arthur Rubinstein.
She and her trio continue to play in jazz clubs and festivals around the world and was the top selling jazz artist in Japan in 2010. In January, Beegie received a very warm welcome from her fans in New York, making her debut appearance at Birdland, with Monica Ramey. The trio for this performance will include bassist Roger Spencer and drummer Marcus Finnie.
Tickets for this special Snap on 2&4 will go on sale Monday, September 5 at 10am by phone at 242-5299. Admission is $20 / $10 for college and High school students with ID. There will be two sets, starting at 8pm.
